Description

‘Feed me sunlight’

Longing, unbothered, focussed, flourishing.
Let go of the pressure.
Release past weight.
Leave me be.
Let me breathe summer.

Let me introduce you to my new series ‘Calm’, based on old retired horses. I’ve tried to capture the peace they radiate while they finally can breathe nature again, which reflects in my work my search for rest in my head.

We tend to leave our old horses on dedicated retirement pastures, as if they have nothing to share with us anymore. But I believe it is in these moments, that they can teach us their most valuable lessons. Not working anymore gives them the freedom to be a horse again.

And suddenly I feel that my overwhelming stress should make place for freedom and rest. It’s not about waiting till our pension to enjoy life.
For true retirement is not the end of the road, but the calm in our mind.

This series was made for ‘Paard Verzameld’ Exhibition ‘Storytellers’ and based on the old retired horses of ‘De Paardenkamp’, a retirement home for old horses in Soest, The Netherlands.
